Rear Wheel Bearing

My wifes 91 100 does the same thing, and I've been as frustrated as you are.
I have had the rear brakes apart 3 times and find nothing out of the
ordinary. Sometimes it sounds like metal on metal, but the pads are less than
1/2 worn, and the discs look fine. Bearings show no play or noise either.
I know that doesn't help you out, but if you find a cause, let my know (&
vice versa).
