Noisy radiator fan on '86 4kq

What are my options for replacing the embarrassingly loud radiator fan
on my '86 4000cs quattro? I've lived with this thing for over three year
now, but can't take it any longer - it just makes too much noise, and
when the after-run feature kicks on, anybody within a block usually
stops in their tracks and wonders "what is that" (and I'm only slightly
exaggerating). It even scared the living daylights out of my then- 4
year old daughter and for about 6 months she was scared to go in or near
the car in fear that the fan would kick on again (and that is a true
story). The fan itself seems to work fine, but it is just too damn loud.

I think that I've read that there is a new(er) unit that is available
that makes less noise. I searched through the archives a bit but didn't
turn up anything. If anybody can give me some information about
replacing this thing, I would greatly appreciate it.

I just moved from Salt Lake to Denver, so if there are any local parts
places I can look, that would be helpful to me. Also, any good places
locally to have brake & suspension work done?

One other thing - should I just forget about the 4000 and just buy a
Coupe Quattro I have been looking at recently? My 4000 runs fine, but
needs expensive work soon, the CQ appears to be in well maintained
condition, but with 155k miles on it and it would mean I would have a
small car payment again (I posted more info about it on the 20v.org
mailing list).

Thanks in advance,

Matt Daniels
