Difficult cold starting & glowing turbo

The starting thing can be the usual fuel injectors or
vacuum leak CIS bullsh*t.  The turbo is a relief to
all of us and shows that you don't drive like a
grandma.  I opened the hood on may car at the top of
Eisenhower Pass, 11,000+ ft, hauling four big guys up
the hill at 80mph or so and my turbo was almost white
hot.  I thought it was going to ooze off the EM.  That
was before I had the extra injectors mounted, and was
probably a little too hot, but turbos are designed to
glow like you explain.
