[Sorta OT] Importing a car from US to Germany

I have a friend who lives here in the US, and is considering buying either
an A4 or a VW GTI. He suspects he'll be moving to Germany in the next 2-3
years and wants to bring the car with him.

Any BDTD on taxes, shipping, even the viability of this idea?
