5K - Elec short in fuse #14

Well as you might notice from my number of posts, today is fix the
Audi's day...  One problem I am tracking down is a recent lack of dash
lites in my 86 5KTQW.

First I was led to the rear license plate lites being out.  Got some
replacement bulbs but they did not fix the dash lites, or even lite
themselves.  This led me to checking fuses, and fuse #14 was blown (the
one for the license lites).  I replaced it and it blew too...

So I have a short somewhere in the license lite circuit.  Not that I
would care much except it seems that the dash lites won't work until
this is fixed.   So I thought I would gather suggested spots to look
before trying to trace down the wires for this circuit.

Any suggestions as to likely spots in the fuse 14 wiring to look for
shorts? (the rear hinges seems like a good start,  any others).

And I suppose I should ask (just to be pessimistic) if I can't find the
short to the license plate lites, is there a "kludge" to get dash lites
again?
