THATS the one i couldnt think of - sharan. i think scirocco is africa, or
india. jetta for sure was a wind somewhere (it was an article i read
somewhere) and i think bora was on the list. apparently it was their
marketing/naming schema, which is very little known among vdub fans.
i had always wondered where the names came from. back when i was a BIG vw
nut. i just found this on some dude's website.....
"Most of the European names given to VWs came from wind names. Passat means
Trade winds, Golf for Gulf stream, Jetta for Jet stream, etcetera. Scirocco
- Hot North African desert wind that blows into Italy Original name was
rumored to be Blizzard. Golf - Gulf stream winds (a high altitude
North-south 100 mmph wind) Jetta - Jet stream (East/West wind, affecting
Pacific air travel)"
