Wheel damage?

One sign you might want to look for is in the wheel bolts and the threads 
that they screw into.  The might appear very sharp as a result.  This doesn't 
mean that all over tightening will result in this but if this condition is 
there then over tightening most likely caused it.  

Galling on the wheel bolt seats and the corresponding surface can be another 
sign as well.
