<< Hello list,
Right now I have the opporturnity to get an '82 5kt engine for 100 bucks. I
also have the opporturnity to get an MC for the same price. My plan is to
make a high output engine to drag race and auto-x. Other than the 7:1
compression, is there any reason to NOT use the 82 engine? >>
Mike, for one, the hydraulic heads will not bolt to the block without
modification, and frankly, you don't need compression that low, the MC is
still low at 7.8:1 (or so), and will allow you to use any of the hydraulic
lifter heads, plus the bigger displacement.

The problem with the solid lifter heads is that there are no readily
available 40mm valves that I know of, another reason to go MC...

I question anyone running more than 20psi of boost, you probably are using
the wrong turbo. There are not very many turbos that can efficiently make
boost over 20psi, and most turbos will make more power at 15psi than 25psi,
once the blades go supersonic airtemps skyrocket.

Good...

Oh Geez, not recommended...
<< and an NG/NF knock sensing ignition. This should be good for ~300-350+hp I
am hoping. I just want to build something with a rediculous amount of power
even if it's only useful for racing.>>
No reason you can't have a 350hp 5 cylinder on the street or track, once you
start talking 500+ you are starting to be limited to race gas (in the US
anyway).
