recent under-seat battery experience?

I've had luck with the Champions sold at Wal-Mart, which do have the
vent, but, as you said, not in stock. There may be a suitable Interstate
(usually at tire stores I've seen) and secondarily, I'd consider the Die
Hard (Sears) which were middle rank in Consumer Reports. If I recall CR,
most batteries performed about the same, so they said that the most
important factor was the date of manufacture of the battery (don't recall
how to read that though).
