performance struts needed.

hello listers.  well today i broke the front passenger side strut, or
shock, whatever it is.  so do any of you have any useful info for me?  i
am planning a lowering and rim job soon also.  so the question is, whose
best at a reasonable price.  what do i all need?  springs, shocks, i
have NO clue. but a full replacement is needed.  
i hear boge, koni, bilstein are all good, but i want adjustable ride
also... anything really stiff i guess:)  what should  i do?  what all is
needed?  the car is  a 1988 Audi 90 FWD.  if any of you want to tell me
about your setup... PLEASE DO!  hehe well thanks tons people.
