You put the seal on the window, and then use the rope (not string, you want
a size that will pull the seal thru, rather than cutting thru the seal, I
thing 1/4" or just a bit smaller works well, and you want something that is
very flexible, not stiff) to pull the seal around the metal opening in the car.
You will need a helper to press on the glass outside (particularly on the
corners.) Wrap the rope around the window with the two free ends at the
top, overlap them a little (a foot or so.) Press the glass against the
opening and start pulling the rope thru. Make sure the seal comes out, and
goes into it's lip. Pull the rope slow, and be careful around the first
corner, you will have to press on the glass fairly hard (don't break it
though) , and pull real slow, you may have to start one or two times before
you get the hang of it. The seal must come through cleanly with the rope
with no gaps. Go all the way around until you are finished, the last
corner will be easy compared to the first.
It helps to do this in an warm environment, glass is more forgiving the
warmer it is (70 degrees plus would be best, and let the seal and glass sit
in direct sunlight to warm then up.
