Speedo Erratic

I have just put my '87 5kcdtq back on the road after working on it in my
evenings for the past 6 weeks. The speedo sticks between about 110 kph
(66 mph) and 140 kph (85 mph). If I pound on the top of the dash, it
jumps to whatever the speed should be. What is the fix?
FYI: My original problem was the timing pin sheered off and the car
wouldn't start on my second day of ownership. Eventually had to take out
the transmission (5 spd). While in there I replaced the rack boot,
cleaned up the clutch, replaced control arms, tie rod ends, and sand
blasted and painted some parts. The shift lever popped out of its
socket, and I had to find out how to lubricate and put the shift lever
back together. Today had the alignment done and drove fast and
uneventfully 50 miles to work.
Still have a number of electrical problems; lock ups don't, radio
doesn't work, dash lights don't come on unless you turn on the lights
before starting. This may be a problem during the winter if it starts
hard :-)
Gotta go work on the radio. Bye now.
George
