When I worked at Anderson/Behl P/A in the early 80's we were the west coast
test center for P/A. We got several vehicles which never made it to market
( 928 twin turbo, 4000S TD etc) but we got to drive them all over the place,
even encouraged to take them on our personal vacations as long as we kept a
log book with gas mileage, oil consumption etc. I took a 1984 Audi 4000S
Turbo Deisel ( Indiana red 4 door with Biege/Gold houndstooth int.) from
San Jose, Ca. to Ill. to visit family. I stopped in to the P/A dealer in
SLC, Ut. and in Denver, Co. and let the techs go over tha car. It was an
awesome ride ( had 72 hp vs. gas 78 hp at the time) got 54mpg on the flats,
and pulled the hill near Denver at 70 mph with no problem. We all wanted to
buy the car at the dealership but alsa it was shipped home to the Fatherland
for inspection. Audi never brought that car to the states but VW got the
driuve train.
