Audi did have a Diesel powered four-door sedan and a wagon in the US.  I
almost bought a used Turbo-Diesel sedan in the mid 80's.  Trouble was the
automatic transmission fluid looked and smelled like gear lube.  Seems that
Audi had problems with some transmission/final drive seals.

About 5 years years, a Berks county, Pa farmer was selling a Audi Turbo
Diesel wagon
that was in barn storage for more than several years.  The wagon looked like
every
bird in town shit on it.......and in it.  Several days later the wagon was
gone.  As I can recall, both cars resembled the 4000 series.

I wish Audi would bring over a TDI powered car!
