Fuel Distributor

Mark,
Yeah, way different. Now I remember what was up with the distributor I
thought I had for you. Pulled it out of a 100? thinking I could use it
for the NG setup. Although most was the same, there were still some
differences between it and the NG setup for the 87.5 GT - motor I am going
to be putting in the 4kq (project GTQ).
Well I lucked out and found an 87.5 coupe setup at a boneyard, so didn't
bother mixin and matchin.
Since then I'd forgotten that it wasn't CIS, but CIS-E3.
Anyway, the main differences are - CIS-E uses a differential pressure
regulator (electrical) vs. CIS which uses a control pressure regulator.
There are also differences in slit size for fuel metering, different
potentiometer for acceleration enrichment, setting for the plate are
different. There are even differences between the CIS-E and CIS-E3 mainly
between current to the diff pres. reg..
It is unusual for the problem that you found, but once the plunger is
damaged ever so slightly, you must get another complete distributor as they
are factory matched and wear in together. When you find your new one be
very careful not to drop the plunger out. A used unit can be cleaned, so
if gummy then OK, just watch that plunger during cleaning and installation.
OK - you have the battle more than halfway as you have found the problem.

it doesn't look it. I'd start searching for a used fuel dist.

you don't know what caused the problem, somehow I suspect Techron can't
create "galling"

I don't think so. In fact, I'm pretty certain they are radically
different...
