Suggested Maintenance before Installing Engine

belts are cheap enough that even if it WAS replaced it is worth the $20
insurance policy.....  Plus the engine will be on a stand anyway right?  My
favorite kind of timing belt change procedure right there....

sounds like a good list.  How about the transmission input seal and the
accessory belt (S4 is serpentine I think...) while you are there?

The S4 headgasket is pretty beafy.  Some of the 10vt owners on this list have
fitted the 20v gasket in favor of the 10v for its added strength.

I think you've got the list about right.  You open up a big can-o-worms when
you start talking about replacing the headgasket and such.  While_I'm_at_it
syndrome will strike and your wallet will become lighter :-)
