Civic is probably bad, a GTI (newer) might handle high speed well. The New
Beetle 2.0 was fine close to 120 mph (ran out of road). The Turbo Beetle
I've driven only slightly above 150 km/h (to see if the rear spoiler would
lift up) and there was no sweat on slushy sanded tarmac with all-season
tires and even sunroof open. The 944 Turbo S is wonerful at 240 km/h (is
that 148 mph?) - also ran out of road. The 944 NA was great at 200 km/h
and even started running a little cooler after a few minutes. The
scarriest thing on a 2-lane road at 200 km/h was the oncoming cars turning
left - the Porsche brakes helped, though. The only thing that was even
scarier was replacing a week later the 944 timing belt an finding a sloppy
tensioner without much of a trace of the bearing in it left (160,000 km on
the odo). The timing belt didn't seem to care, though and looked pretty
good ...
