I know, it sounds strange. But, as I was thinking about outloud with my
wife yesterday, I have not had a car that suffered from a major engine
failure, such as the catastrophic valve failure in the 22k mile old
ovloV 850 turbo head, since a 1970 911T I had some 15 or so years ago
that burned a valve. That was literally at least 14-15 vehicles (and
hundreds of thousands of miles driven) ago with 8 of them being Audis.
When the most expensive and newest car I have bought in 10 years takes
this big a crap (while meanwhile an aging type 44 turbo quattro is one
of the best and most reliable cars I have ever owned-go figure) I think
getting out of it and into another Audi instead very much is piece of
mind. Despite the doom and gloom I have heard about Audis (especially
from my local independent ovloV shop ironically enough) every single one
of the eight I have owned to date have been wonderful cars. All cars
break. To date the worst (costliest) Audi failure I have experienced was
a power steering rack. The replacement head job for the 850t was more
than I paid for my 5ktq (thank goodness ovloV kicked down for 80% of
it!).

I know how you feel though, once you loose confidence in something it
becomes mighty hard to gain it back. Every single time I dare go WOT in
this ovloV 850t I wonder if it will loose another valve--I can't trust
that car as far as I can throw it. In any case, I will have the AAA+
card close at hand regardless of what I'm driving.
