'89 90q ignition codes

Hey guys, I'm troubleshooting an ignition problem and
am trying to pull the codes from the ignition ECU. I'm
using the LED and jumper method in the Bently since
the fuel relay fuse method doesn't work with the '89
model.  Anyways, the only thing I get is a solid lit
LED, no blinking.  Should it blink 4444 if everything
is OK or does it just stay solid?  My car seems to be
running in some sort of limp mode, hovering around 0
degrees timing at idle when it should be 15 dbtdc.
low end power is currently non-existent.  Static
timing is set to 8 dbtdc, idle switch is good, temp
sensor is good, grounding is good, fuel ecu is still
pluged in, and the timing fuses are good.  I kind of
suspect a knock sensor, but I can't get the codes to
tell.  The engine runs fine after startup until you
rev it, then it falls on its face and retards the
timing.  Any ideas?
