90 100Q cant rev past 5k under load

Hi All,
I have a strange problem that seem to be slowly getting worse on my 90 100Q.
The car starts and drives fine but it will not rev past 5000rpm from second
gear on. I first noticed it on a trip a couple of months ago when
accelerating on to the highway in third and attributed it to the fact that
put 87 octane in it and the computer might have retarded the timing. I was
able to redline in first and second gear. Took a long trip last week (300
miles Rt) with 93 octane and did the same test running up through the gears
from second. The car feels like it's hitting a soft rev limiter when it gets
to 5k. In first it will got to redline and feels very quick for a big car
with all of 130hp. I am suspecting the fuel pump relay but is there anything
else I should check for.
