As always, I look at the quattro virtual world, and chuckle sometimes,
thinking that ACCNA really ought to have more events during winter, or rename
Steamboat: Cabin Fever Event...
Hello Huw, I believe that's a warm beer you're drinking:
FYI, I NEVER asked Phil to stop his cell phone/bentley crusade, ONLY that it
be delegated to the proper list in terms of post, definition and CONTENT.
Let's be clear, I *only* asked for the "stop" wrt posts to the quattro and
urq lists; it wasn't "out of the blue", it was well after a reasonable time
to poll, get interest, and develop a database of his own (next time I promise
to jump right in "out of the blue"). IF you or Phil feel strongly that this
deserves qlist attention to every step, Dan and his "staff" have developed a
list for exactly this topic. I myself have been excommunicated to that list,
it's hardly the "dark" side, it's where real nerds lay in waiting. I only
asked repeatedly for equal treatment wrt rules of posting.
Interestingly you bring up Scott M's website. A great and valuable resource,
that everyone *but* Mockry touts as a great tool. Further, I don't at all
remember having to sort thru surveys, updates and technical problems SM ran
into working and refining his website. I remember them clearly, cuz even as
the q-village idiot, I got plenty of private emails "whatchathink", and even
a couple phone calls....
IF you are "really" confused, a quick tuneup can be found at the home page of
www.audifans.com, specifically in the definitions and appropriateness of post
content vs list. My thoughts on the absurdity of the project aside, ON the
TORSEN at AUDIFANS.COM list, I'd be happy to help you understand that what Phil
is doing won't work in the US, even if you did have a cell phone.

...From what I saw, Phil told us all he was working on a system whereby
people could use their cell phones to access specially formatted
databases (databasi?) of AUDI information. Am I correct in this?
I thought so. 100% on topic.
Then, out of the blue, Scott J. lashed out at him and accused him of
off-topic posting, etc, and asked (demanded?) not only that he cease and
desist but that Dan and someone (not Brett, so I don't remember who)
chastise him for it.
I don't have a cell phone so I can't take advantage of this service, but
I can imagine how invaluable it would be to some. A lot like going to
Scott M.'s web site, or digging through AF.com archive posts.

Then I got *really* confused when Dan *did* chime in and ask that it be
taken "private."
I am of the opinion (and we all know what they are worth!) that Phil has
not been improper at all, he has been generous, in this effort - even if
he is only doing it for his own convenience (like the reason I made my
web site) others may benefit. I also think he has been wronged in the
initial alleged fiasco, and is being falsely maligned during its
aftermath.
And so where is he to turn for sympathy when he tries to do something
for the "community" and is asked to stop?
So all I can do is offer back that 60 degree ale he owes me :)
and ask everyone not to jump all over each other for no good reason
whatsoever.
