Did you inspect the michellin-man hose?  Check on the underside,
mostly.  Oil builds up and weakens the hose, eventually causing
splits.

Take it off the car, fully clean it with simple green, dish soap, or
other gentle degreaser, and gently bend/pull it in various directions
to see if there are any cracks.
