Hi all,
A friend of mine (who's not on the list) is going to
replace the transmission in his '85 4kq soon. I've looked
through the archives and found very limited info on the topic-
obviously, very few people have actually had to do this.
The trans isn't bad, it's really the center diff that went bad-
tested by my mechanic while running using an automotive stethoscope-
the center diff makes horrible whining noises when running.
I've found some useful stuff in the archives about removing the
cat and possibly the downpipe to get access to the engine-trans
bolts, but some details are missing:
1. What are the sizes used for the engine-trans bolts? I read that
they are allen head, that's why I ask.
2. Any particular advice on what size and length extensions are needed
to do the job?
3. I also found some stuff about making sure the front of the engine
does not rock back and forth and to jack up the front of the engine to
get the trans off. Any specific tips on how to do this?
4. What part number is the clutch alignment tool? I don't have a 4kq
Bentley, neither does he, that's the problem.
Thanks.
Taka
