the underneath of the car is covered with a very good rubberized undercoat=
ing, the stuff is lifetime unless its cut into, must be the case where your=
rust problems are, im guessing. do not remove the stuff unless you have th=
e same stuff to put back on, unless you do want to do it and patch holes ev=
ery year. wurth makes the best stuff, but you need an $200 gun to spray it.=
lucky me, i work in a bodyshop, so we have it !! the tubes are about 25 bu=
cks each, stuffs not cheap, but well worth it !! you can hand wire brush th=
e underneath, just to remove road grime and then cover with a trim black ( =
sem ) to make it look new, or newer anyways.

I'm getting close to completing the stripping of my '87 5kcdtq. I'm
completely stripping everything off in order to do a total repaint and
rebuild of the mechanicals. The car was still running and looked decent
when I started, but after stripping down I discovered front end damage
to the frame and the body panels where the bumper attaches.
But the reason for the email is; Does anyone have any suggestions for
preparing the underbody for the second life of this auto?
Should I clean it off and recoat?
Should I just leave it as is and spray every year?
How about just stripping and patching the rusty areas?
It does look pretty sound for a 15 year old car. Any suggestions
appreciated.
Cheers
George
