Oil dipstick tube...

I was recently at a auto shop where a mechanic used a
special tool to remove a broken speedo gear assembly
from a transmission (this was on a Ford Escort). The
tool was a long thin rod with reverse threads at the
end. Sliding along the rod was a large weight. He
simply screwed the the rod into a hole in the gear
assembly and using the slide weight popped it out of
the transmission.

He told me it was specially designed for removing oil
dipsticks.
