Yeah, I would be surprised if the Type 44's had less safety
features than a Type 85.

In the Type 85's that I've seen, there was a big hollow tube
running across the middle of the door.  Obviously an "anti-
intrusion" type of device.

I've always thought it was impressive.  Not to mention the
rear shoulder belts back in '85 and before, while other cars I
remember such as an '87 Nissan Sentra had only lap belts.
Clearly, Audi did stuff before it was required by law.

I can't remember what the inside of the Type 44's door looks
like.
