Aftermarket Ignition (Javad?)

I was wondering if anyone had played around with running aftermarket
ignition like an MSD-6BTM or similar.
Can a non vaccuum advanced distributor be effectively controlled by such as
device, essentially freeing you from the ignition constraints of the Audi
ECU?

Lets hold off on why I might want to do this for now...  Just want to
investigate if possible.
