Checking Fuel Pressure

Hi everyone ! Jim is about to test the fuel pressure on the '88
Audi 5000 but do not have remote control device to plug into fuel
pump relay socket.

One thing we thought of was to use a separate battery to run the fuel
pump independently of the ignition.
My concern was this without any safeguards in the way of shut offs,
was that too much pressure might be applied to the line with no where
to go and damage something. Is that possible?

Is the dump line which returns to the fuel tank going to be working
okay if the engine isn't running and the fuel pump is, for example ?

How do other people defeat the timer in the fuel supply relay when
the engine is not running?

Or defeat the switch on the air plate in order to keep the fuel pump
running while the engine is off?

Special thanks to *Ameer* for loaning us his fuel pressure gauge !
He is indeed a good man !!

Cheers, Fay
