Pressure washers, NAC (well, VLAC)

This is something Huw and I agree on and have for
years now. I wash ALL my engines and drivelines. Not
the cars, just the mechanicals. Some say you'll lose
the "waxy protective coating". I don't know
where it went on my Audis, but I could bearly find any
hint of it. What I did have is tons of rust, and
layers of Pento, oil and various greases mixed with
sand and grit. I can't imagine how anyone can
properly diagnose or repair a vehicle when you can't
even see fasteners. I got so sick of working on such
filthy messes that I promised myself over 20 years ago
that I would keep MINE clean. Don't do this
(especially the first time) where you might be
stranded. I've never been, but have had
"issues". Bring some WD-40. This IS
something this stuff actually does well. It's a water
displacer. Not a penetrant. Anyway, once you've
identified and repaired (cleaned or replaced and lubed
with dialectric grease) all those nasty, green
terminals, you can move on to all the fluid leaks
you've now found hiding under all that dreck. This
has happened with every high mileage vehicle I've
owned. Foreign or domestic. Sorry for the long rant.
I'm still tired from looking at/working on all those
filthy engines.
