Well,
I might be selling my current winter/track car to a
friend in need.
That means I'm in the market for something else to
save my M3 from getting all salty and icky in the
winter time.
I'd like to get an avant, that way I have the space to
carry things from the Home Depot and my dog to the
beach etc.
Two criteria are reliable and cheap. Not sure if the
Type 44 can fit those. What do you guys think? I'm
fairly mechanical, but hamstrung by a gravel driveway,
no garage and New England weather. That means most
jobs during the winter would be farmed out. I don't
want to spend alot of cash on whatever I pick up, I'd
rather drive the M3 instead...
I've had good luck picking things up out of a
junkyard, but those have all been older VW's that I
have an intimate knowledge on. I'm not sure if I'm
comfortable picking up a Type 44 turbo avant from a
junkyard. If I decide to go that way is there a
buyers guide somewhere that lists all the things I
should look at?
What about a "newer" 100 avant with the V6? Is the
automatic tranny a real dog?
TIA!
