idles fine, full acceleration seems great, but in between lots of ignition cutting out - '88 90 4 cyl

Wow! They're under $30. for a German made Bosch unit.
You can very easily cut and spice the connector.
BTDT x 2. Did you check any of the webvendors at
audifans.com? Like rod at The Parts Connection. If
you REALLY want a direct fit, I'm SURE he can beat
that price by a ton. Maybe more like $40-50 or less?
