On the larger body Audis, the sunroof drains run into the front doorjamb
and behind the rear wheel.  Bentley recommends "soft cable" be run in the
drains to check for plugs.  The V8 manual says to use something like
speedometer cable.  It also recommends starting at the outlet rather than
at the sunroof.  I'll bet some weedwhacker plastic line would work.  It'd
also be colorful so you could see it as it appeared at the sunroof.
