Away from home and losing power

Thanks again for all the replies and suggestions.
The latest:
I found that the wiring harness was putting a lot of strain on the knock
sensor connector. I got a big ziptie and lifted the hanging harness up
with it, attaching it to the ground cable. I checked to see if the knock
sensor harness was no longer stressed and it's not. I then went for a 40
mile drive and had no problems, on the same gas.

Judging by the condition of this harness connection I suspect there is an
internal fault caused by strain. It may not trouble me on my drive home,
and if it does, it doesn't seem like a big deal. I'm reasonably sure the
motor is not detonating itself to death or anything like that.

The spare engine for my 944S2 is being delivered on Friday, it may have
the same knock sensor type. My vauge recollection is that they are
similar. If so and if I'm still having trouble with the Q I may swap the
knock sensor, or just replace the section of harness I suspect is bad
first. I can bring a scope back home from work to check it out too, or
fire up my 1960's vintage one. If I'm not having much luck with this, I
might like to borrow a sensor back in Colorado before buying one for $50
plus shipping, etc.

I will get some fresh gas tomorrow, some techron, and maybe some octane
boost (I understand there is little difference between the gas grades
in the wintertime in terms of additives so octane boost might be better
than buying premium) and see how it performs on my drive home. If it
acts up badly right away I can always turn around but at this time it
seems adequate for the task.

Thanks,
-Joel
