Konstantin,
I picked up the bearings yesterday - listed for about 30 Canuck Bucks each -
the local bearing supply company said that they "Might" be able to get them
for a lower price, but I had to give them the actual bearing part number -
not Audi's part number. (Oh well, gave me an excuse to test sit an A4 and
TT) I do believe that the bearings are Japanese. I don't have them here in
front of me but I'll put up a posting on the ng tonight with the part
numbers. Now that being said, the alternator being repaired is a 90 amp
Bosch unit - Audi part number 026 903 017 BX. There were 2 alternators used
in 1987 5kTQ's - the front bearings are the same (021 903 221 D) for both
but the rear bearings are different (I needed 054 903 221 D). Check the
Family Album to find out if your alternator bearings are the same as the
ones from my '87, as I think Audi began using 110 amp units in 1988 and you
may not have the same bearings at all.
Cheers!
Steve Sears
1987 5kTQ - just turned over 300,000 km this morning - glad that odometer
gear held out ;-)
