The headrest pad was also available for the V8, but I'm not sure the
headrest opening is the same shape on the Vanagon/Transporter. Our -85 T3
Transporter pick-up is out getting a new canopy as we speak so I can't go
measure the openings and compare to the Audi, but my recollection is that
the Vanagon opening is taller and narrower than that on the Audi.

I don't know if the Audi V8 headrest pads ever came to North America.

anyone ever seen them? the vw vanagon (caravelle) has the same headrest
hole as the audi's of that era.. and there was a headrest insert offered
for the european vanagons (caravelles) that was a 2 piece deal, you snapped
the front half into the back half and it "sandwiched" the headrest, making a
padded area where the hole formerly was. they were velour covered, with
padded foam underneath. far more comfortable than the "hole" in the
headrest.
