326 hp out of a 280 hp turbo or, What color is my K24?

Having just seen a copy of the Winter 2002 Quattro Quarterly, I note with
some interest Uncle John's answer to "Do you know whether or not my 2001 TTq
with 225 bhp runs the KO3 or KO4 Turbo?...." on page 56.

Uncle John suggests in his reply, "...these turbos {up rated k03/04s} will
not make serious horsepower for an extended period of time.  If you want to
make a lot of power & maintain reliability then look at the 326 horsepower
kit from MTM..... {which apparently} upgrade your turbo to the K24 that was
used on the early S4/S6 cars....."

What the heck#$$%@?  I thought we were basically "reliability" and otherwise
absolutely maxed out at @ 270-280 bhp with the K24's in the UrS4/6's?
Where'd MTM's K24 get the additional 56 to 46 horses? A smaller, lighter
chassis in the TT?
