89 100q sedan alarm/doorlock issues

There's a 30 sec delay from the time you lock the door 'till the time the
alarm is "armed" (read the manual, I *think* it's 30 sec.). Would this
explain the tricks? Anyway, why would you unlock, and then quickly re-lock
and unlock???!
