Bolt on turbo reliability

I have had the "bolt on" style conversion on my CGT for about 6 months now
and have had no reliability problems, and I did the conversion on an 18 yr
old 180,000 mile engine. I now have over 193,000 miles on the car, this is
my one and only driveable car and I drive it a lot. The only problem I have
had is one blown head gasket from getting a bit over zealous with the boost
(18psig).

As for internal components, when I pulled the head the pistons still looked
great and had almost no carbon build up. In fact the inside of the engine
looked better than when I opened it up at 136,000 for leaky valve seals.

The Audi 5 cylinder is an amazingly strong and durable engine. I am still
amazed that it can handle the turbo swap even after I used it for a whole
season of drag (approx 20 passes) racing N/A style.

Just my 5 cents
