Hi Guys,
Took the cluster out and apart only to find previous
repair attempt. Person tried to resolder the speedo
terminals as per conventional wisdom. I tried to clean
up the contacts with contact cleaner. Some slight
evidence of burning/brown spots near joints. I believe
the wattage of the iron may have been too hot. (30
watt reccomended max). Anyway, I reinstalled it and of
course, nada. I have written North Hollywood
speedometer regarding this and expect an answer soon.
I asked if replacing the circuit board itself was
possible/feasible,(assuming the speedo is good). Any
BTDTs on this? Can I buy a circuit board used and
expect any success? Is it possible to bench test the
speedo without too much special eqiupment?
Re:alarm problems,
Finally got a schematic of the alarm system (thanks to
a lister) and found the control box under the glove
box. Disconnected the unit completely. Had to jump the
started relay #8.
Could'nt just stick an ugly wire in there, so I gutted
the relay and soldered a jump wire inside of it.
Reinstalled the top of it and plugged it in. Bingo! no
alarm problem, clean looking, no cut wires, and
backing back into the alarm function involves a new
relay, plugging the box back in and bothering to index
the door switches.
All credit goes to the mighty list!
Thanks,

=====
