Ron,
I've been down the path of ruling out the wires because they look good. On
more than one occasion and different cars, boats too, wires looked good,
and I'd go through even replacing injectors, etc. 'cause I saw spark on all
cylinders and wires looked good. Inspection of the pretty wire by pulling
the boots off and seeing there is a positive connection, or use ohm meter
per Bentley to test for proper resistance and continuity.
Unless they are relatively new, consider repacing with a new set.
I test any "fixer uppers" by degreasing and power washing and blow drying
the motor. This will reveal bad wires, or cap & rotor upon start up.

[.. Ran fine until yesterday when merging on the
highway under about 3/4 throttle it suddenly stumbled, then began to run
rough. The rough running has continued since then. The basic feel is
that it's running on 4 cylinders... a regular miss rather than a
herky-jerky stumble. It's evident throughout the rev range - power is
obviously down.
About all I could think to check when I got to work was that all the
plug wires are on tight and to look for any obvious loose vacuum lines.
Didn't see anything...
...Any ideas? Any common failures to look for? Troubleshooting tips for the
fuel and ignition systems? Helpful web sites?
