Subject: [s-cars] Help, 93 S4 loss of power and turbo whine

The car is a 1993 S4. Noticed a lack of power lately as well as no whine f=
rom the turbo spooling up.

Suspected the bypass valve was bad and when removing it found that it was m=
uch easier to move the old valve than it was to move the new one. "Great" =
I thought... only $35 from local Audi dealer and it was in stock.

After replacing it though I still feel a lack of power and still no turbo w=
histling merrily in my ear.

What should I look into next?? There is no boost gauge in the car so that =
is no help. I don't think this is the famous torn boot syndrome as I can't=
hear the turbo spooling at all. Is it possible there is a problem with th=
e turbo itself?? I was told when the trubo goes it will spew oil smoke out=
the exhaust ect but I am not sure this is true and would like to hear from=
the list on that topic. Is it possible that I damaged something by runnin=
g the car with a bad bypass valve?

Thanks to all in advance,
