well the dealer took the machine off the floor, got a guy to put the plates
on it, told me to tell anyone that asked that it was a "demo", and told my
wife to use it until she wanted to bring it back. we got to see the 10k
mark come up on the speedo. he then told me that he would give me a nice
price (i.e. same as the golf)...

they are a good audi dealer. no surprise therefore that nz sells more
audi's than australia, especially the high-end models. nz took a lot of the
australian allocation of rs4's for instance.

i am very impressed with the car the more i drive it. it has the best
handling/ride compromise of any audi i've driven. very smooth and
comfortable, and yet it doesn't wallow all over the place. much better in
this department than the golf. my wife likes the shape better than the
golf, although i don't. ditto the v5 motor in the vw which is a peach, the
1.8t in the a3 is nice, particularly with auto, but doesn't have the same
"zing".

Interesting. Hell would freeze over first before a dealer
did that
here. Why bother, I suppose; they're selling 'em fast as
they can.

The local dealership(Bernardi, I've forgotten who they
were before
Bernardi owned them, but not much has changed since my folks
bought
their 5kCST) is expanding into much swankier digs, separate
from the
VW half of the dealership, too, if I've read the signs
correctly.

I wonder if Audi will entertain bringing the A3 to the
states...maybe
they might try if the new C-coupe works out for Mercedes; I
know a
lot of people who wanted a really nice, but also really
small, car
for various reasons. However, I seem to recall the A3's had
rather
		lackluster safety performance in crashes?
