I have noticed in the some other cars; namely Volvos; that the idiot lights
all light up like a Christmas tree or flicker randomly if the diodes in the
alt go bad. They use a very similar Bosch setup. The voltage feeds
backwards and lights up the dash lights. In the Volvos have not noticed the
warning lights to all light up if the the brushes are short; causing
intermittant charging. Sometimes when the regulator portion goes I've seen
all the idiot light go on.

Might be a Bosch specific problem
