Hi Adam,

It sure sounds like it could be your fuel pump. Are you handy around the
car, or a take it to a shop kind of guy?

Under the back seat are the battery, the ABS brain, and some stuff for the
door lock and security system -- not much that will have a pronounced buzz.
Pull the seat part of the back seat out and have a look/listen.

The fuel pump is under the truck space, specifically, under the raised
section of the trunk right by the pass through between the trunk and the
rear seat. The fuel pump is in fact at the bottom of the _inside_ of the
gas tank.

A fuel pump is not too difficult to replace. If it were not for there being
gas in the gas tank, it would be downright easy.

Dealer prices are high. You might try VM Autohaus, The Parts Connection or
The Parts Bin as places for a new pump. See the audifan's vendor page for
the details of how to contact these places and others:

I have used all three of these places. VM Autohaus is close in BC, but over
an international border, so that slows down the shipping and you pay a
little extra for shipping. The Parts Connection is in CA, so things get
here (WA) fast even via UPS ground. The Parts Bin ships for free, but is in
NJ. I've been very pleased with all three.

I had the fuel pump out of my '88 5ktq to replace the pressure valve two
years ago. Now I need to replace the pump soon, as mine is making more and
more noise. Given the miles on your car, if you suspect that the original
fuel pump is still in the car, you can figure it's time to replace it. Just
do it.

If you need more info on how to replace the pump, ask away.

Best,
