Taka,
I am somewhat puzzled about your motives for bringing this up again, after a
year or more. Your money was refunded to your satisfaction so I don't
understand where your comments are coming from.
My record stands on it's own, and it is very sad that despite every effort
that I made to satisfy you, after all this time you still felt the need to
"slam me".....................
After I received the Ultranator back from you, I retested it (bench test)
and it delivered 150-peak amp, as promised. That is why I did not see the
need to say "my mistake" - there was no mistake, and I have since sent that
very Ultranator to another customer, who has had absolutely no complaints
with its performance.
I would suggest that you stick with your mechanic and his products.
You all Take care now,
Avi

Subject: RE: Ultranators
I have not aired this publicly because Avi was good about getting
me a refund, but I had a bad experience with his product.
I ordered an alternator from Avi, needing it right away and spending
the extra money for Express Mail delivery. The alternator I received
was poorly rebuilt- the commutator was not machined smooth, there were
big bumps and ridges in it, the alternator was not very clean and my
mechanic expressed severe doubt in the quality of the rebuild due to the
poor appearance and the commutator.
Avi was surprised that this was the case and gave me a refund pending
return of the alternator. This was not a problem in any way, I am
satisfied
with his return policy. However, he claimed that there was no problem at
all with the alternator. I am, by no means, an expert on alternators,
but
my mechanic is an experienced Audi/VW/Porsche mechanic with approx. 20
years'
experience, trained by Porsche/Audi and currently has a Bosch service
certification,
not just a Bosch dealership. I trust his judgment- he is honest and a
straight
shooter. My mechanic said the alternator was no good and that he would
be
uneasy about installing it in my 5ktq because of his concerns with the
quality
of the rebuild, pulled a Bosch-rebuilt alternator off the shelf, and
showed
me the differences in the quality of the rebuild, side-by-side with
Avi's
product.
Due to the obvious difference in quality, I did not feel bad in my
decision
to return Avi's alternator. You all may say, "well your mechanic has a
vested
financial interest in selling you an alternator when he would make money
on it,"
but point-in-fact is that I usually supply my parts for service and when
I can't
or need parts in short order, I get very good prices from my mechanic-
he is not
looking to just make money off of me- I can consider him a friend and a
valued
source of technical information regarding Porsches and Audis, as Scott
Justusson
does on the q-list, another mechanic, but one who is on the list.
Maybe everyone else's experience is different, but considering that
everyone has
such glowing praise for this product, I wanted to present a
counterpoint. I won't
buy one of his products again, because he denied that there was any
problem with it-
if he said "my mistake," that one slipped through the cracks and was a
poor rebuild,"
I might excuse it, but I can't accept a substandard product like that,
the standard
being Bosch's own US rebuilding outfit.
My only regret is not taking photographs of the alternator I received,
so that I
could have preserved photographic evidence backing my assertions.
Taka
