Yes, the bomb on a 5K is available sometimes for under $200. Takes a whole
hour to change the frst time, less with practice. CQ bomb might be more,
but probably not 2X.
Russ Southerlin recharges them (no affiliation, have not used one, but list
experience seems generally good).

And what does he base this on? PS pumps have two failure modes - they leak,
and a reseal fixes that, or if they are VERY old, they might show low
pressure at idle, and the steering effort might rise.
I think you need a different shop.
Heck, my whole car is "on it's way out", and so is my airplane and my
house, and so am *I* - nothing lasts forever, but replacing it just because
it isn't new is dumb - just how big IS this guy's yacht?
