Steve,
I don't know if your battery is bad, but it could be... the type 44 turbo
is hard on batteries. I had bad experience with Exide. After the third
Exide battery in less than three years I gave up on Exide, even though the
one in the car was less than a year old and would have been replaced under
warranty at no cost to me.
I bought a new one made by Johnson Controls and my problems went away.
Johnson Controls is the best ... they make batteries under many different
names, including Interstate. For a list of the different names they sell
under, check out AutoBatteries.com ... brought to you by Johnson Controls,
Inc.
http://www.autobatteries.com/brands/index.asp
At this site they list all the different names and where to find them.
Interstate brand isn't on the list, but I'm fairly certain this is also one
of their products. I bought my battery at AutoZone under the name DuraLast
for under $50 with the vent tube. I think a similar battery is sold by
Interstate, but their price would be closer to $100. Before I spent that
much on an Interstate brand I'd opt for an Optima sealed battery...
andother Johnson Controls product.

"The battery in my 86 5KTQW is showing signs of age in cold weather. It
was -8F this AM and it just did not have enough juice to turn the car
over fast enough for the engine to catch. The battery is only 2 yrs old
(7yr battery)."
