couldn't you simply hack in a pair of temporary switches - an spst "on"
switch followed by a spdt hi/low switch, feeding 12v directly to the
headlight relay triggers?  Mount them with some duct tape and cardboard
to your instrument cluster housing and you may never want to go back to
"stock"!
