Watched the Maine forest rally a while back(3-4 months ago?) and
Sprongl wasn't doing well; the car developed a major boost leak early
on..he could barely use any boost, car kept stalling...looked really
bad.
Between stages, Sprongl was caught on camera with a roll of duct tape
furiously wrapping something under the hood. Smiles at the camera,
holds up the roll, and says "Duct tape! Good for at least (some
number) seconds!" Sure enough, car was fine the rest of the day, but
he still finished rather poorly(of course, he had Sube and Hyundai
factory teams each with a half dozen cars up against him; the WRX's
were prepped in England, drivers were from around the world, etc
etc...all the things Bob just loves about rallying these days! :) I
think that was the same race where Hyundai lost almost all of its
cars. Talk about your race performance matching your retail
performance :-)
The commentators were having a gossip session about the S2 during the
race. The conversation was something to the effect of "that old
tired Audi." Minutes later, Sprongl (accidentally) took out a ground
camera that was between floorboards in a wooden bridge with said S2
in a perfect accidental act of revenge. The commentators were
pissed..."Hey! Those things are expensive, Frank!"...but the
director loved it, they showed it on instant replay at least twice.
Hello tire, <crunch>, goodbye picture.
