PS pump - second look

OK, went back out after reading the archives a little, got some
good leads, but nothing concrete.
It looks as though the front seal is leaking on the pump -
there is a puddle under the front of the car after sitting
for an hour or so, and a line of pentosin on the radiator
shroud/hood, some spatter on the timing belt cover.
It is not leaking enough for the pump to run _dry_, so
I'm guessing the pump is just dead. The leak on the front
of the pump(behind the pulley) could explain the volcanoing,
and as another lister mentioned, burning rubber could equal
burning pentosin. The rubber smell is still present around
the belt/pulley area.
I think I'm just going to buy a new pump and be done with it.
I could reseal, but current living situations do not lend
themselves well to benchwork, so to speak - R&R pump, no
problem, R&Rebuild pump, ehh, big pita.
Any thoughts before I call the local imported store tomorrow
and shell out the $$$ for a new pump? I guess something
went wrong internally - refilled the reservoir(had dropped
even more, about 3/4" below "low" level), still no power
assist - the pump is not pumping, do not see any rack/hose leaks
that would bleed enough pressure to make the pump ineffective.
Bah. Not leaking enough to drop pressure _that_ much,
this pump leaked WAY more than this before I resealed
the X caps, but it still worked fine. I think my pump
is no longer.
